You can still decorating your home for the holidays without any lights on the tree, or in any of your other decorating displays.

Using ribbons and artificial flowers, such as Poinsettia, will make  beautiful tree or table displays.

Which ever kind of tree you choose to use. Real or artificial, you can decorate very reasonably. First place to check is a thrift store. You can often find exactly what you want for a very reasonable price.

Look for ribbons already tied into bows if possible. If you can’t find any, just look for rolls of ribbon. Wider ribbons is better for hanging on the tree.

Of course red and green are traditional Christmas colors, that doesn’t mean that you have to be traditional. This is going to be what you want it to be. So you decide what colors you want.

I would suggest that you pick one or two colors. Too many different colors might be too busy for one decoration. Still this is your tree, so you can decide what you like. Some people are more eclectic than others.

Depending on how much you have to spend, and what you can find at thrift stores might help determine the colors you choose.

Remember you don’t have to decorate the back of the tree if it is in a corner or against a wall. We are on a budget so save your money for more important things, than decorating things that no one will see.

It is usually easy to find silk flowers at thrift shops. They get dusty and people get tired of them. So they donate them to thrift stores when they change their decor.

Ribbon is a little harder to find. So you may want to find the ribbon first and let that color help you decide what color flowers to use with it.

Once you find flowers that will go with the ribbon, you might need to trim them a little to get them where you want them on the tree.

Generally speaking, any tree will allow you to stick the stems of silk flowers between the branches. If you need to trim the stem a little to get it to fit on your tree shouldn’t be a problem. You might need a small wire cutters, since most silk flowers have a wire stem.

At this point you really don’t need any more on your tree. If you choose to hang a garland, it will look beautiful. Either way your tree will be a hit without having to run up a big electric bill.
