Low cost Christmas Decorating

Not everyone wants a tree for Christmas. Not everyone has room for a tree in their homes. This doesn’t mean that you can’t decorate for Christmas.

Many homes have a fireplace. The mantle above is an excellent place to decorate for Christmas. A mantle gives you so many options for decorating.

If you go to a Christmas tree lot, you can usually find boughs that have been broken or cut from trees. Some times these just get thrown away. Ask if you can have some. Often they will give them to you for free. Some lots sell them since they know they are a great decoration for the holidays. The boughs can be arranged on the mantle, with ornaments, or small figurines in a Christmas or wintry scene.

Pine boughs can also be arranged with wire to form a wreath. Spray flocking or small decorations added to the boughs can make it more Christmassy. Pine cones and ribbons can add to the festive look you are going for. The wreath can be hung anywhere that you would like a bit of decorative color.

Wreaths can be used inside the house as well as outside. They can be made as large or as small as you want them to be. The cold weather this time of year in most areas, will help to keep the wreath fresh much longer. Since boughs are already cut you won’t have to worry about watering them.

Using wire you connect boughs you can also make centerpieces for any flat surfaces. Of course favorite places might include the centerpiece of your dinner table. Don’t stop there. You can decorate any flat surface you choose. Christmas is a festive time of year so it’s hard to overdo it with decorations.

Since we are talking about flat surfaces, candles can be added to the small decorations you add to the boughs when makes the pieces. I would suggest you not light the candles unless you plan to be right there to douse the flame if it should catch fire. The candle itself can make the center of the piece. It doesn’t need to be lit. Actually the unlit fat candle with small boughs woven around it can make an entrance table or a snack bar. Small wrapped squares, and tiny ornaments can complete the arrangement.

Once you start making decorations, your imagination will take over, you might surprise yourself and discover your decorative nature.
