Bathroom Remodel
What kind of contractor do you need? There is a good chance you will need a plumber. Since most of the bathroom is about water, unless you know a lot about plumbing yourself, you will need a plumber.
Assuming you are remodeling a current bathroom, rather than creating a new bathroom, decide if you want to keep your fixtures in the same position or if you want to move them.
If you do not plan to change the position of your fixtures come and you have some plumbing knowledge. You may be able to do the work yourself.
If on the other hand, you plan to rearrange the fixtures. You may need a plumbing contractor. Hiring a plumber, isn’t cheap, but doing plumbing yourself and then calling a plumber to correct your mistakes will be even more expensive.
Before you start the remodel. Write down everything you plan to do. Look at your list to decide what skills you have that can save you money on hiring a professional.
Do you plan to put the flooring down? Is this something you know how to do? If you are putting new flooring. You will need to remove this stool to get floor tile underneath it.
Depending on what kind of tile you plan to use. You may need special equipment such as a wet saw to cut any kind of stone tile. Working with this saw will take some time to learn.
If you don’t already know how to use this saw. It might be cheaper to hire a professional. Many tile stores will let you borrow a tile cutter from them with the purchase of time. A small hand tile cutter will be more time-consuming and cheaper in the long run. If you plan to do the tile job your self.
Moving on to plumbing fixtures you again need to decide if this is something you can do or if you need a professional. Changing out a vanity for a pedestal sink, should be fairly simple.
Changing a bathtub will be much more challenging, if you are not experienced in this area.
Talk with friends and family above any plumbers they may have used for similar work. Ask if they were healthy with the job and with the price.
Try to get at least two estimates from different plumbers. While price is important. It is equally important that the plumber you choose is one you feel comfortable talking to.
